Choosing the Right Leather for Your Automotive Upholstery Project
When it comes to selecting leather for your vehicle’s interior, there are a few key considerations to ensure you get the best results:
TOP-GRAIN VS SPLIT LEATHER: Always opt for top-grain leather for its durability, breathability, and luxurious finish. Split leather is a lower-quality option that may not stand up to the wear and tear of automotive use.
MEASURING LEATHER BY SQUARE FOOT: Unlike other materials like vinyl or fabric, leather is measured by square feet. Our hides come in 1/4, 1/2, and whole hide increments, with a whole hide averaging 40-45 square feet.
HOW MUCH LEATHER DO YOU NEED: The exact amount of leather required for your project depends on the dimensions of the pieces you’re recovering. As a general rule of thumb, always round up to ensure you have enough material. If in doubt, consult with a professional upholsterer or reach out to our team for guidance.
CARING FOR AUTOMOTIVE LEATHER: To maintain the look and feel of your leather over time, we recommend regular care with high-quality leather cleaners and conditioners. This will preserve the leather’s color, softness, and durability.
