What is a LeatherSeats.com upholstery kit?
Full Upholstery Replacement: A LeatherSeats.com upholstery kit is a premium replacement seat cover package engineered to completely replace your vehicle's factory seat upholstery – not just cover it. Unlike generic slip-on seat covers, these kits require you to remove the original seat fabric or leather and install the new LeatherSeats.com covers in its place. This process gives your interior an upgraded look and feel, as if it came straight from the factory with custom leather seats.
- Custom-Tailored Fit: Each kit is custom made-to-order for your vehicle's exact year, make, and model, which ensures an OEM-quality fit and finish once installed properly. In the end, your cloth or worn factory seats are transformed into a fresh, new leather interior tailored specifically for your vehicle.
- Installation & Support: Installing a LeatherSeats.com kit involves removing the old seat covers ("skins") and attaching the new ones with a similar attachment design (hog-rings, velcro, push-clips, etc - depending on the model) for a secure, professional fit. LeatherSeats.com provides detailed DIY installation guides and specialized installation tool kits to help with the process. If you prefer professional help, we can connect you with a qualified upholstery installer in your area, ensuring your new interior is installed correctly for a factory-quality appearance.
Are these slip-on covers, or do I need to remove the existing upholstery?
No, we do not sell slip-on covers. Slip-on covers do not use the factory attachments, and tend to float around on the seat causing for a poor fit and finish. Our replacement leather upholstery kits replace your existing seat fabric or leather. During installation, the original seat covers are removed, and the new LeatherSeats.com covers are installed in their place. This replacement process gives a true factory look and feel, as if your vehicle came with the leather interior from new. (It also means any features like seat airbags, lumbar, and other seat adjustments remain functional with the new covers.)
What is included in the kit?
Each LeatherSeats.com kit is a full replacement upholstery package—engineered to replace the original seat material throughout your vehicle. Unless otherwise noted, our kits include replacement upholstery for all seating rows, including:
- Seat Upholstery: Custom-tailored covers for each seat's cushion and backrest, designed to fully replace the original cloth or leather—not go over it.
- Headrest Covers: Matching leather or vinyl replacement for all factory headrests.
- Integrated Armrest Upholstery: If your vehicle has fold-down or built-in seat armrests (front or rear), matching covers are included for those as well.
- Jump Seat or Auxiliary Seat Upholstery: For vehicles equipped with center jump seats or rear auxiliary seats, matching covers are provided.
Each kit is patterned to match the exact seat configuration for your year, make, and model. Depending on the seat design, attachment methods may include hog-ring listings, J-clips, Velcro, or other OEM-style fastening systems, all sewn directly into the covers. While hog rings and installation tools are not included, they are available as optional add-ons.

Standard kits focus specifically on seating surfaces. Items like center console lids and door panel inserts are typically not included, though these may be available separately—covered in the next FAQ.
Do you offer upholstery/accessories for other parts of my interior besides the seats?
Console Lid Covers: Replacement leather covers for your center console armrest lid. This lets you refresh a worn console lid with new matching leather. You can start by browsing our pre-selected console lid upholstery options or choose from 50+ leather colors to custom match your interior. (Console lid cover kits are available for many late-model vehicles and install in place of the factory vinyl or cloth cover using a pneumatic upholstery stapler.)
- Door Panel Inserts: Leather door insert upholstery to upgrade the fabric or vinyl sections on your door panels. This adds a premium touch to your interior with leather door panel inserts designed for a precise OEM fit and to complement your seat upholstery upgrades. Swapping in vinyl or leather inserts can dramatically elevate your door panels' look and feel, making them consistent with your new leather seats.
- Door Armrest Covers: Leather upholstery for door armrests or pull pads. These covers replace the factory material on your door armrests with matching leather, improving comfort and durability. They are designed as factory-fit replacements and crafted to add comfort, durability, and a luxury appeal to your interior. (Simply select your vehicle to see available pre-sewn armrest cover kits for your model.)
- Steering Wheel Covers: These covers are made to order based on your wheel's overall sizing and are intended to be hand-stitched directly over the factory material around the outer circumference. The leather does not extend onto the spokes; instead, a faux (dummy) stitch is included across spoke areas for a clean, finished appearance while keeping installation straightforward.
This is a mid-tier solution—more affordable than a full factory-style rewrap, but far superior in fit and material quality to generic off-the-shelf options. Each kit includes pre-cut automotive-grade leather, matching thread, and is designed to stitch on tightly for a clean, tailored finish that complements your seat upholstery.

- Shift Boots: Leather shift boot replacements for manual or automatic shifter consoles. Our upgraded shift boots swap out the factory vinyl or cloth boot with high-quality automotive leather. Each boot is cut for a direct fit and can be custom stitched in your color of choice. This is a great way to refurbish a cracking or faded factory shift boot, or to match your new LeatherSeats.com seat upholstery kit for a unified look.
- E-Brake Boots: Matching leather emergency brake (parking brake) boots to replace the stock e-brake lever boot. Like our shift boots, these come in 100% leather in your choice of color and stitching, allowing you to replace a worn e-brake boot with a premium leather one. Installing a leather e-brake boot ties together the details of your interior, especially if you've upgraded other components to leather as well.
- Wireless Charging Console Lids: We also offer the Sanctum series wireless charging console upgrades. These are leather-wrapped replacement console lids that integrate a Qi wireless charging pad inside. In other words, you can replace your factory center console lid with one that not only is wrapped in matching leather, but also wirelessly charges your compatible Android or iPhone device when you set it on the pad. The Sanctum wireless charging consoles maintain full functionality of your console (utilizing the factory latch and hinges, and even your existing USB port for power), so it's a seamless high-tech upgrade to your interior.

We're continually expanding our pattern library, so feel free to check in with us about your ride!
Are LeatherSeats.com kits made of real leather? What is vinyl?
Yes — our kits are built using automotive-grade, top-grain cowhide leather, paired with high-quality vinyl in some areas depending on your selected package. Most factory "leather interiors" use a similar combination: leather where it counts, and matched vinyl in low-contact zones. Vinyl is basically a synthetic leather look-a-like material with the same color and texture. For those of you that don't want any vinyl check out our 100% Leather kit upgrade.
We follow that same approach with our standard Deluxe leather-trimmed kits, while also offering a Premium leather-trimmed upgrade with more real leather than factory or even our 100% leather upgrade for customers who want full leather coverage with no vinyl. The exact amount and placement of leather vs. vinyl varies by vehicle and package — and we'll go into more detail in the next FAQ.
No matter the configuration, all materials are UV-resistant, temperature-tested, and built for long-term durability. You'll get real leather, real automotive quality, and options to tailor the kit to your preferences.
Fun Fact: We have 67 colors of Leather and Color/Texture matched automotive grade vinyl!
What are the "Deluxe," "Premium," "100% Leather" "100% Vinyl" package options?
Most OEM factory leather interiors come in a combination of leather and matching vinyl. These are referred to as "leather-trimmed" interiors as you'll commonly see on the window sticker. Our "Deluxe", "Premium" and "100% Leather" terms refer to the quantity of leather and vinyl used in our interior packages. We provide three tiers so you can choose the right balance of leather content and cost:
- Deluxe Leather-Trimmed Kit: This is our starting leather-trimmed package for 2 and 3-row interiors. It places leather on the front row seating surfaces, with matching vinyl on the sides and backs of the seats. In a typical 2-row vehicle, the front seats get leather facing, and the rear seats are mostly vinyl except for some leather inserts in the middle of the backrest or seat bottom. This Deluxe setup closely mimics how most new cars come from the factory with leather (a mix of leather and vinyl). It's a great value and our most popular choice.
- Premium Leather-Trimmed Kit: This is the starting package for 1-row interiors, and increases the quantity of leather content of the 2nd row for 2-row interiors, and the 2nd and 3rd row for 3-row interiors. For your typical 2-row interior both the front and rear seats will have leather on the seating surfaces, with vinyl used on the side skirts and behind the seats where applicable. This option is perfect if you want more leather on the rear seating surfaces for better comfort and durability. This is a great combination of price, durability, and value.
- 100% Leather Kit: This is our highest quantity of leather – all visible parts of the seat upholstery that are normally made with vinyl will now be made from high quality leather. That includes seat faces, sides, and backs where applicable (with the possible exception of unseen attachment areas). A 100% leather kit offers a true luxury-car experience with the look, feel, and even aroma of real leather everywhere. It is our highest-tier product for those who want no compromises. How to choose? It often comes down to budget and preference.
- 100% Vinyl: When price and function is all that matters, 100% vinyl might be the best option for you. This means all surfaces are finished in automotive grade vinyl with no leather. This is our lowest cost package, and although won't be as luxurious as automotive grade leather, will still maintain the same texture and color to look as if it's a leather interior. The main use case we would suggest all vinyl for would be in a situation where the vehicles seats may be repeatedly getting wet, or in a heavily used work truck scenario.
The Deluxe kit (leather/vinyl combo) is the most budget-friendly leather kit and very durable, while the Premium adds more leather especially in the back, and the 100% gives you the full leather treatment. Many of our customers find the Deluxe package more than sufficient for daily use, but if you're aiming for a specific high-end look or just love the idea of all-leather, the options are there! We're happy to explain differences or send samples of each material if that helps you decide.
What is "Ecstasy" leather?
Ecstasy is our highest-tier Italian leather option, available as an upgrade over our standard leather. Ecstasy is an ultra-soft, full-grain cowhide with a more muted grain texture, and buttery hand feel often found in luxury European interiors. In terms of durability, Ecstasy and our standard automotive leather are both excellent for daily use -- you won't be sacrificing longevity. The main differences are in the feel and appearance: Ecstasy leather has that supple feel and elegant finish you would expect in a high-end vehicle.
We offer Ecstasy leather in a curated range of colors. If you choose an Ecstasy upgrade for your interior, the leather portions of the kit will be upgraded to Ecstasy leather. We recommend requesting a free sample if you're considering Ecstasy leather -- seeing and feeling it in person is the best way to appreciate the difference. It's a comfort-focused upgrade for those who want the softest, most luxurious leather we offer.
Can I customize the design of my leather kit (color, stitching, perforation, etc.)?
Absolutely! One of the best things about LeatherSeats.com is that you can build a kit tailored to your style using our Interior Upholstery Configurator Tool! When designing your kit, you'll have a variety of customization options, including:
Colors & Two-Tone: We offer over 65 primary color options for leather and matching vinyl, as well as a variety of other secondary material options like suede, exotic vinyl, exotic, leather, and our Piazza Perforation. You can choose a single color for a classic look or do a two-tone design (for example, black outer sections with red insert panels). Our Interior Configurator lets you visualize different color combinations. If you're still not sure, we're happy to advise on popular color pairings. If you want to match a factory interior color, let us know -- we likely have a close match available.
Matching or Contrasting Stitching: You can select a thread color in either a matching or contrasting color applied to the perimeter seams that complements or accents your leather color. For instance, black seats with red or blue stitching, or a subtle silver stitch on gray leather. It's a small detail that really makes the interior pop!
Piping: Upholstery piping --- also known as welt cord or simply welt --- is a narrow, decorative trim that runs along the seams of seat upholstery. It's typically made by wrapping a strip of material (usually matching or contrasting vinyl or leather) around a flexible cord and sewing it into the seams where two panels meet. Piping adds a clean, finished edge to the upholstery and can enhance both the structure and visual definition of the seat design. Depending on the color and material chosen, it can either blend in subtly or stand out as an accent for a more custom look.
Perforated Inserts: Perforation is small holes that get punched in the leather, often in seat center sections and is commonly seen in sporty and luxury vehicles. Perforation is required if your vehicle has factory seat ventilation, or if you're adding our Sanctum Seat Heating/Cooling Ventilation System. Be sure to let us know if your vehicle came with ventilation as we will also need to add a reticulated high-flow backing to the inserts for proper airflow through the upholstery. If your car originally had perforated leather, we definitely recommend this option as well.
When you use our online interior builder, you'll be prompted to select these options step by step. If you're ever unsure or have something unique in mind, just give us a call. 866-639-7328 or Click Here to Contact Us . We love helping customers create a dream interior -- we can often accommodate custom requests or advise on what combinations work best. Plus, we can mail out free swatches of leather and vinyl so you can see colors and textures in person before finalizing your order.
Can I add custom embroidery or logos to my kit?
Yes --- we do offer custom embroidery services for customer-supplied artwork or personal logos by custom request. You can personalize your seat upholstery with a stitched design, provided that the image or graphic is not trademarked or copyrighted. For example, we cannot embroider brand logos like the Ford oval, Toyota emblem, or other protected designs due to legal restrictions.
That said, if you have a business logo, club emblem, initials, or original artwork, we can typically digitize and stitch it into your seatbacks, console lid cover, or other leather panels. Keep in mind that embroidery is a custom upgrade that requires additional lead time and setup cost. Be sure to reach out to one of our customer service representatives for more details. Click Here to Contact Us or 1-866-639-7328
⚠️ Note: All embroidery work is stitched before we build your kit, so it must be finalized during the initial order process - it cannot be added on later.
Do you offer special patterns or CNC quilted insert designs?
Yes --- we offer a range of specialty insert styles beyond the standard seat design by special request. This includes quilted diamond patterns, and other custom 2-tone layouts. Because these designs require additional customization, they may not appear in our standard Custom Seat Builder Tool. If you're interested in quilted inserts or a more complex interior design, just contact our team --- we'll walk you through the available patterns and create a custom order to match your vision.
Can you match my factory interior color? Can I see samples before ordering?
We have a huge library of colors, including many that are very close to OEM factory interior colors. In most cases, yes -- we can match or closely approximate your vehicle's stock leather/cloth color. When you provide your vehicle details, we often know the factory color names and can recommend the closest LeatherSeats.com color (for example, if your GM truck has "Ebony" interior from the factory, we might suggest our Black as the best match). That said, color perception can be subjective and materials differ, so we always encourage getting samples. We offer free leather sample swatches mailed to you, so you can compare them directly to your interior trim and decide what looks best. Just contact us with your mailing address and the colors you're interested in. Request Free Color Samples. If you're trying to match something specific -- say, the exact shade of beige in a 2015 Lexus RX350 or the two-tone from a particular edition -- let us know. We'll do our best to find the best color from our range or send multiple samples for you to choose from.
Remember, you can also choose a completely different color scheme from your factory one -- it's your custom interior! Whether matching the original look or creating something unique, samples are the best way to ensure you'll love the result. We're happy to provide them at no charge.
Do the leather kits accommodate side-impact airbags and other seat features?
Yes --- our leather kits are designed to work with all factory seat functions, including adjustable headrests, fold-down armrests, jump seats, lumbar support, cupholders, seat-mounted controls, and more. As long as you select the correct options in our Interior Configurator, your kit will be fully compatible with your vehicle's original seat layout.
Please Note: Most kits will require cutting holes during installation for items like the headrest post holes or seat controls, except in cases where it is a sewn feature on out kit. Feel free to call us with any install questions. 866-639-7328
Our seat upholstery patterns are vehicle-specific and vary depending on model year, trim level, or other equipment. For example, if your vehicle came with a manual driver seat rather than power, you'll need to select that option during the configuration process if that option is offered. If the option does not change the upholstery pattern we won't ask you. In rare cases, we may offer patterns for one configuration but not another --- so if something on our site doesn't match your vehicle (such as airbag presence or seat layout), please reach out before ordering.
For vehicles equipped with seat-mounted side airbags, we engineer our kits with specialized sewing techniques and certified airbag thread in the seam area. This allows the airbag to deploy safely through the seam --- just like it would with the factory seat cover. We take safety seriously, and all seat airbag designs are handled with proper construction in mind. If your seat configuration is unusual or you're unsure about fitment, just give us a call --- we're happy to walk you through it.
